West Side Story is regarded by many as the finest work of the world-famous composer, Leonard Bernstein, whose centenary is being celebrated in 2018. It won a near-record 10 Oscars including best film and best score, the lyrics of which represent the major debut of Stephen Sondheim. 60 years after it first opened, West Side Story remains many people’s favourite musical and has even been described as one of the greatest pieces of musical literature.
The Bernstein-Sondheim combination comes together with electrifying effect producing a string of gloriously memorable numbers including "Something's Coming", "Maria", "America", "Somewhere", "Tonight", "I Feel Pretty", "A Boy Like That", "One Hand, One Heart", and the hilarious "Gee, Officer Krupke".
